Running sudo apt-get remove --auto-remove neofetch
which uninstalls and removes dependencies, and sudo apt-get purge --auto-remove neofetch
didn't help.
Removing ~/.config/neofetch
also did nothing to help with the error.
Only after removing /etc/profile.d/mymotd.sh (it contained just one line: 'neofetch') that I was able to get rid of the neofetch: command not found
error at login. I didn't find the answer anywhere. It took a couple hours digging into the user login sequences get to this solution.
Hope this info saves you some time. :)
